How To Fix Steamtools Purchase Error

SteamTools is a third-party software application designed to interact with the Steam client. It allow you to add games to your Steam library.

If you are using Steamtools, then Steam might show a “Purchase” button instead or “Play” button. This generally happens after the Steam updates.

The Steam updates may prevents you from launching the game or make the game unplayable and may remove previously added games or titles. The updates from the Steam can change the validation of ownership and licenses.

So, in this article you will learn how to fix Steamtools Purchase Error when you are not able to launch the game or when you see “Purchase” button instead of “Play” button after the recent Steam Updates.

How To Fix Steamtools Purchase Error

Fix 1. Delete appinfo.vdf and packageinfo.vdf File

Note: You can keep the copy of these two files to Desktop first because deleting the appinfo.vdf file in Steam (located in appcache) removes local cache data regarding game configurations.

It does not remove installed games, save game files, or account information.

  • First of all close the Steam completely, even from System Tray and Task Manager.
  • Then go to – C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\appcache folder.
  • Select both “appinfo.vdf” and  “packageinfo.vdf” files. Right-click and then select “Delete” to confirm deletion.
  • After deleting both the files, launch Steam and then try launch the game and check.

Fix 2. Clear Download Cache

  • Open Steam and go to Steam Settings.
  • Go to “Downloads” tab.
  • Now, next to “Clear Download Cache” click on “Clear Cache” and confirm it. This will automatically close the Steam and relaunch it.
  • After your Steam get launched, you can then check if the problem is solved or not.
