How To Fix John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando Not Launching/Crashing/Not Loading/Black Screen/Freezing On PC

Fix 1. Modify Game Launch Options, Try -dx11/-d3d11/-dx12

  • Open Steam. Right-click on John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando game and select “Properties”.
  • In the Launch Options, type “-dx11” and close the tab.
  • Now, launch the game and check if it solves your issue or not.
  • If not, then type “-d3d11” or “-dx12” in Launch Options and then check.

Fix 2. Verify the Game Files

  • Open your Steam Library and right-click on John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando.
  • Select Properties and go to the Installed Files tab.
  • Click on Verify integrity of game files.
  • Now, launch the game and check.

Fix 3. Run The Game as Admin or In Compatibility Mode

Try to run the game from game installation folder. Run game as an administrator, try running the game in compatibility mode.

Windows Security users allow the game exe file to controlled folder access and firewall:

  • In Window Search type “Windows Security” and click on it.
  • Click on “Firewall and network protection” and then click on “Allow an app through firewall”.
  • Click on “Change settings” and then click on “Allow another app”.
  • Then click on “Browse” and browse to game installation folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando\client_pc\root\bin\pc folder).
  • Select John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando exe file and add it to the list.
  • After adding it, make sure both Private and Public is ticked marked.

  • Disable Game Overlay in Steam: Open Steam. Go to Library.
  • Right-click on John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando and select Properties.
  • And then disable “Enable the stem overlay while in-game”.
  • And then launch the game and check.

Fix 9. Run the Game on Dedicated Graphics Card Driver

  • In Windows Search, type “Graphics Settings” and open it.
  • Click on “Browse” and browse to game installation folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando).
  • Now open client_pc\root\bin\pc folder.

Fix 10. Delete John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando Saved Game Folder

Note: (You will lose all the save game progress & saved settings, so keep backup of this folder to desktop first)

  • Open File Explorer. Go to C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData (if you don’t see AppData folder then click “View” at the top and “Show > and check mark Hidden items“)\Local\Saber folder.
  • Right-click on Toxic Commando folder (first copy paste the folder to desktop to keep backup) and select delete to delete it.
  • Now, launch the game and check.

Fix 11. Update Windows

  • Click on Windows icon and then click on Settings.
  • On the left click on “Windows Update” and then click on “Check for updates”.
  • If any update is available, then Download and install
  • Restart your PC and then launch the game.

Fix 12. Increase Virtual Memory

  • In Windows Search, type view advanced system settings and click on it.
  • Go to Advanced tab, under Performance, click on Settings.
  • Go to Advanced tab, under Virtual Memory, click on Change.
  • Uncheck ‘Automatically manage paging file size for all drives’.
  • Select your Windows drive where you installed the game. (Usually C:).
  • Choose ‘Custom size’ and set the ‘Initial size’ and ‘Maximum size’.
  • (Set Initial Size: 1.5 x Total RAM & Maximum Size: 3 x Total RAM)

For example, if your PC Installed RAM is 16GB, then enter the value as follows:

  • Initial Size (MB): 24576
  • Maximum Size (MB): 49152

If your PC Installed RAM is 32GB, then enter the value as follows:

  • Initial Size (MB): 49152
  • Maximum Size (MB): 98304

Click ‘Set’ and then ‘OK’.

Restart your computer for the changes to take effect and then launch the game and check.

Fix 13. Uninstall/Re-Install John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando

If none of the fixes work for you, then uninstall John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando game from your PC. Restart your PC and reinstall the game to C Drive (SSD Drive), if already installed in C drive try installing to another SSD or external SSD drive. And then launch the game and check.
