Note: All the solutions which I am going to mention below will be applicable for all Android phone brands including Samsung, LG, OnePlus, Vivo, Realme, Oppo, Huawei, Google Pixel, Xiaomi, Asus and so on.
Solution 1: Use Stream App
Stream app is a free music player. This app doesn’t let you play songs in background but you can open it in the pop-up view and for this pop-up view must be enabled. You can play songs using this app when your phone’s screen is off due to YouTube’s term of use.
Now, follow the below steps to use Stream app for the same.
Step 1: Run Google Play Store app on your Android device and download and install Stream app. Then open the app, it will ask you for permissions to “draw over other apps”. Hit on Open Settings option.

Step 2: Scroll down and select Stream app and enable Allow display over other apps option.

Step 3: After this, go back to the Stream app and then start playing a music. This music will start playing in pop-up view directly even if you have open other app.

Now, you can go back to the home screen and do other things with continue playing song in pop-up view.

Solution 2: Try YouTube Music Website
You can open YouTube Music in browser and use it as a desktop site and play music in background. For this, you don’t need to keep your phone’s screen turned on. You can easily use playlist and its other features.
Here, learn the simple steps to use it in the browser to play Youtube Music songs in background without premium subscription.
Step 1: Launch any browser on your phone and visit music.youtube.com. Then tap on 3 dots at the top right corner of the screen and tap on Desktop site (this will make a check mark beside Desktop site option) to run that website in desktop view.

Step 2: Now, you can play music and if you want, then you can go back to your phone’s home screen and use other app.

Note: For this method, you need to use the desktop site on your smartphone which is not a good experience.

Solution 3: Use Black Screen Of Life
Black Screen of Life app uses phone’s proximity sensor to turn the phone’s screen black. This app doesn’t have a good rating. However, after activating this app you need to play music directly on YouTube Music app and block the proximity sensor through an object.
So, in this way, you can use this app to listen songs by turning off your phone’s screen.
Here, learn the same to do the same.
Step 1: Download and install Black Screen of Life app on your phone from Google Play Store. Run the app and hit on pink circular button.

Step 2: When the circle turns green then it indicates that the sensor is enabled. Now, you can launch YouTube Music and play any music.

Step 3: You can turn off the phone’s display by blocking the proximity sensor at the top of your phone’s screen.
Note: This app will not play music in background, but you can turn off your smartphone while playing songs from YouTube Music (app should be opened).

Solution 4: Use Pi Music Player (Alternative Solution)
Pi Music Play let you play music when the screen of your phone is turned off. You don’t need to turn off the phone’s screen but it enables the power saving mode which uses the black screen and reduces the brightness to very low that looks like always-on display. Due to this, you can use pop-up view to use your mobile while listening song and power saver mode to play music when your phone screen is off. But you can’t access the YouTube playlists and you can’t only listen audio mp3 songs.
Now, follow the below steps to learn how to use Pi Music Player app to play songs.
Step 1: On your Android phone open the Google Play Store app and from there download and install Pi Music Player app and open it. Then allow all necessary permissions.

Step 2: In this app, you can search all songs available in your local storage because Pi Music Player is just like normal music player application at its core.

Step 3: Swipe left to Discover tab and you can get songs that you can play online and it is powered by YouTube Music. Now, you can play desired songs and Pi Music Player app will ask for permissions to “draw over other apps”. Hit on Proceed.

Step 4: Now choose the Pi Music Player app from the list and toggle on Allow display over other apps.

Step 5: When you turn off your phone’s screen then the song will get stop by showing a pop-up message to use Power Saving mode. You can turn on the screen again and hit on Resume option on pop-up message.

Step 6: Now, power-saving mode will be enabled with a black screen and low brightness and with option “Slide to Exit Power Saver”.
