Fix 1. Verify the game files

  • Open your Steam Library and right-click on Resident Evil Requiem.
  • Select Properties and go to the Installed Files tab.
  • Click on Verify integrity of game files.

Fix 2. Delete config.ini

Go to game installation folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RESIDENT EVIL requiem BIOHAZARD requiem) and delete the config file and then launch the game and check.

Fix 3. Delete the hid.dll. restart steam. Game should launch normally

Go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam and delete hid.dll file. Now, launch the game and check.

If you don’t find hid.dll file then skip this fix.

Fix 4. Try These Tips

  • Reinstall RE9 and verify game integrity on Steam
  • Delete hid.dll on Steam folder
  • Delete Config on game folder
  • Force close all Steam related applications on Windows Task Manager
  • Sign out and sign in on Steam.
  • Launch the game

Fix 5. Disable shader pre-caching & Clear Download Cache

  • Open Steam setting.
  • Downloads -> disable shader pre-caching then Hit the button Clear Cache.
  • Try to launch the game and then check.

Fix 6. Fix for AMD Users

Turn the hyperRX settings back to default to see if it would do anything and it ended up fixing the issues and the game booted and seems playable.

Fix 7. Perform Clean Installation of Graphics Card Driver

For NVIDIA, go to – https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/

For AMD, go to – https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html

For Intel, go to – https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download-center/home.html

Search and select your correct Graphics card driver and re-install it. And after the clean installation of graphic driver is done. Restart your PC and then launch the game and check.

Fix 8. Lower in-game settings (If you are able to Launch the game.)

You can lower the graphic settings. Turn off frame generations. Try to lower video resolutions and then check.

Fix 9. Modify Game Launch Options, Try -dx11/-d3d11/-dx12

  • Open Steam. Right-click on Resident Evil Requiem game and select “Properties”.
  • In the Launch Options, type “-dx11” and close the tab.
  • Now, launch the game and check if it solves your issue or not.
  • If not, then type “-dx12” or “-d3d11” in Launch Options and then check.

Fix 10. Run The Game as Admin or In Compatibility Mode

Try to run the game from game installation folder. Run game as an administrator, try running the game in compatibility mode.

  • Open Steam. Right-click on “Resident Evil Requiem” and click on Manage > Browse local files.
  • It will open the Game Installation folder. The path is – C:\Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > RESIDENT EVIL requiem BIOHAZARD requiem.
  • Right-click on “re9” exe file and select “Properties”.
  • Go to “Compatibility” tab and tick mark “Run this program as an administrator”.
  • Then click on “Apply” and “OK”.
  • Now, launch the game from the installation folder and check problem fixed or not.
  • If running the game as admin does not work, then tick mark “Disable fullscreen optimizations”.
  • Also, tick mark “Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 8 or Windows 7. Click Apply and OK.
  • Now, launch the game from the installation folder and check.

Fix 11. Allow Resident Evil Requiem Through Firewall/Antivirus

Windows Security users allow the game exe file to controlled folder access and firewall:

  • In Window Search type “Windows Security” and click on it.
  • Click on “Firewall and network protection” and then click on “Allow an app through firewall”.
  • Click on “Change settings” and then click on “Allow another app”.
  • Then click on “Browse” and browse to game installation folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RESIDENT EVIL requiem BIOHAZARD requiem) select re9 exe file and add it to the list.
  • After adding it, make sure both Private and Public is ticked marked.

If you are using any third-party antivirus like Comodo, Avast, Kaspersky, AVG, McAfee, Norton, bit defender, ESET then allow the game exe to your antivirus program. Or simply disable your Antivirus program and then check. Later, you can enable your Antivirus program.

Fix 13. Run the game on Dedicated Graphics Card Driver

  • In Windows Search, type “Graphics Settings” and open it.
  • Click on “Browse” and browse to game installation folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RESIDENT EVIL requiem BIOHAZARD requiem) select re9 exe file and click on “Add”.
  • After adding, look for Resident Evil Requiem in the list and then expand it and next to GPU preference select High Performance.
  • Now, launch game and check.

Fix 14. Disable Overlays

  • Disable Game Overlay in Steam: Open Steam. Go to Library, right-click on Resident Evil Requiem and select Properties and then disable “Enable the stem overlay while in-game”.
  • Disable Discord Overlay.
  • Disable Nvidia Overlay: Open Nvidia GeForce Experience > Settings > General > Turn off “In-Game Overlay”.
  • Similarly disable overlay in all apps or close all other overlay apps. (GeForce Experience, Nvidia shadow play overlay, AMD overlay)
  • And then launch the game and check.

Fix 15. Close Conflicting/Unnecessary Programs

  • Disconnect external USB drive, mouse, disconnect additional joystick/controllers, multiple monitors connected to PC.
  • Unplug the Logitech or Thrustmaster racing wheel.
  • End the task for Afterburner, Rivatuner, Hwinfo, Razer Synapse or MSI Dragon Center, from Task Manager.
  • Close all of your tabs to free up RAM and relaunch the game.

Fix 16. Update Windows

  • Click on Windows icon and then click on Settings.
  • On the left click on “Windows Update” and then click on “Check for updates”.
  • If any update is available, then Download and install
  • Restart your PC and then launch the game.

Fix 17. Increase Virtual Memory

  • In Windows Search, type view advanced system settings and click on it.
  • Go to Advanced tab, under Performance, click on Settings.
  • Go to Advanced tab, under Virtual Memory, click on Change.
  • Uncheck ‘Automatically manage paging file size for all drives’.
  • Select your Windows drive where you installed the game. (Usually C:).
  • Choose ‘Custom size’ and set the ‘Initial size’ and ‘Maximum size’.
  • (Set Initial Size: 1.5 x Total RAM & Maximum Size: 3 x Total RAM)

For example, if your PC Installed RAM is 16GB, then enter the value as follows:

  • Initial Size (MB): 24576
  • Maximum Size (MB): 49152

If your PC Installed RAM is 32GB, then enter the value as follows:

  • Initial Size (MB): 49152
  • Maximum Size (MB): 98304

Click ‘Set’ and then ‘OK’.

Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Fix 18. Uninstall/Re-Install Resident Evil Requiem

If none of the fixes work for you, then uninstall Resident Evil Requiem game from your PC. Restart your PC and reinstall the game to C Drive (SSD Drive), if already installed in C drive try installing to another SSD or external SSD drive. And then launch the game and check.
