How To Clear Storage Space On Samsung S23/S22/S21/S20/S10

#1: Use “Clean Up” Option

You will find the clean up option to clear the storage of the phone in the Settings app.

  • On your phone, open the Settings app.
  • Then scroll down and tap on Storage option under Device Care.
  • Under Storage, tap on any content to see more details about its data and then clear the files selectively.

#2: Uninstall Unnecessary Apps

We install many apps on our phone for some purpose and when it gets completed then we forget to delete those apps. These applications fill the storage.

So, you should delete these apps to free up space on your device.

For this, tap and hold the app icon for few seconds and then tap on Delete or App info option. And the tap on Uninstall.

You can also delete the unwanted apps from the Settings app or Google Play Store.

#3: Remove App Data

You can clear the app data of some apps like Google Play Store, Google Play Services, etc.

But don’t select apps like WhatsApp because if you clear its data then it will delete the chats and media and I think you don’t want to delete it.

If you want then you can select it.

So, before selecting an app you should first think about its data.

Below, follow the steps to delete app’s data:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Then tap on Apps.
  3. After this, find and tap on the apps whose data you wish to delete. For example, Google Play Store.
  4. Next, tap on Storage.
  5. At last, hit on Clear data.

#4: Delete Downloads

There are many downloaded files like memes, ringtones, photos to send your friends, PDFs, etc.

All these data come under “Downloads” folder which can be found in the “My Files” app.

So, simply open the “My Files” app and choose the data that you wish to erase and tap on trash button.

You should also delete the downloaded movies that you have watched.

#5: Delete Temporary Files

Almost all apps generate cache files/temporary files when you use them. Deleting these files will not wipe any personal data and it is very simple.

Applications such as Instagram, Facebook, Google Chrome, WhatsApp, etc. are used to store more temporary files as we mostly use these apps.

Follow the below steps to do this:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Galaxy device.
  2. Then hit on Apps.
  3. Now, find the apps WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Google Chrome, or any other app.
  4. Next, hit on Storage.
  5. After this, tap on Clear Cache.

#6: Analyze And Delete Data

Samsung phones provide an inbuilt feature called Storage Optimizer that help you to know what to delete and what not such as the number of large files, data which are not being touched  for a long time, apks that you have downloaded, and many more.

Here, follow the steps to do so:

Step 1: On your Galaxy device, open the My Files App.

Step 2: Then tap on Analyse Storage.

Step 3: Now, you need to wait for few minutes so that your system can analyse and provide results.

Step 4: Delete the Large Files, Duplicate Files, etc.

#7: Empty Recycle Bin/Trash

Android phones don’t have a wide system to manage all the trash data in a specific app like computer does.

On Android smartphone it is managed by the apps – File Manager and the Gallery app. And you need to clear its trash to make space.

For My Files application, open the app and scroll down to the bottom to find the Trash. Then tap on “Edit” and choose the data that you wish to delete. Next, hit the Trash can icon to wipe them permanently.

For File by Google app, open the app and you will see the “Trash” in the hamburger menu in the top left. Now, you can choose the content individually or hit on “All Items” and choose “Delete” to erase them permanently.

Note: File Manager App permanently erase the trash after 30 days.

For Gallery app, open the app and then tap on 3 horizontal lines. After this, tap on Recycle Bin. Next, choose the data that you wish to erase and tap on Delete.

#8: Stop Auto Download For Apps

Some applications like Telegram, WhatsApp provide auto-download for Media.

When any user sends you video, pictures, or audio then the app automatically download it, whether you wish to see it or not. And this eats the storage of the device.

So, you should disable this feature on your phone for the app to save the space.

Here, learn how to do this:

  • Open the WhatsApp
  • After this, tap on 3 dots and then on Settings.
  • Next, tap on Storage And Data.
  • Then select No Media for all the options (When using mobile data, When connected on Wi-Fi, and When roaming).
  • Now, uncheck Photos, Audios, Videos, and Documents
  • Lastly, tap on OK.

Bonus Tip: Expand The Storage By Using SD Memory Card

If you have lots of data on your phone and all are important for you and due to this you can’t delete them. Then it is the time to get an external SD memory card.

There are various SD card available ranging from 8GB to 1TB. So, you can purchase it according to your need and budget.

This will help you to expand the space and store more files on the Galaxy device.

Wrap Up

You should never fill up your device’s internal storage completely as it helps the system to do a normal function. And if it gets full then it will not run properly and cause various issues such as lagging, restarting automatically, unresponsive screen, etc.

Hence, you should delete other storage on Samsung S23, S22, S21, S20, or S10 to make some space. We hope the above solutions have helped you in doing so.
